The Listing Optimization Canvas¶
From Ron Davis — AWS Marketplace discovery & GTM · From listed to bought.
Rebuild your AWS Marketplace listing for human buyers and AI procurement. Fill the eight boxes in order — each feeds the next. Copy this into Notion or Figma, or print and write.
Why these eight, in this order: a great listing is reverse-engineered from the buyer. Boxes 1–2 fix who you're talking to and the one thing you do. Boxes 3–5 turn that into copy. Boxes 6–7 make you findable and believable. Box 8 makes you transactable — by a human and by the agent buying for them.
1 · Buyer & the job Who is this for (role, company type) and what job are they hiring you to do? What trigger sends them to Marketplace?
2 · The one outcome The single result you deliver, in one plain sentence a non-expert could repeat correctly.
3 · Title — outcome + searchable category Lead with the buyer outcome and the category a human (or agent) would actually search. Not just your brand name.
4 · Short description (≤ 280 characters) Legible to a human skimming and to an LLM parsing. Value first, no hype adjectives.
5 · Long-description spine One line each: Problem → Outcome → How it works → Proof → Who it's for → Getting started.
6 · Search terms to claim Requirement-shaped queries ("for HIPAA", "with SSO"), categories, and alternatives buyers compare you to.
7 · Proof Named outcomes, logos, or quantified results. Numbers beat adjectives. What can you actually show?
8 · Agent-readable & next step Is pricing legible without a call? Are units, specs, and terms machine-parseable? What's the single next step on the page (book / try / subscribe)?
A worked line, box by box (generic example — replace with your own)¶
| Box | Weak (before) | Strong (after) |
|---|---|---|
| 2 · One outcome | "AI-powered observability platform." | "Cut incident resolution time in half without adding headcount." |
| 3 · Title | "Acme Cloud Suite" | "Incident Response Automation for AWS — resolve outages 2× faster" |
| 4 · Short | "The leading next-gen platform for modern teams." | "Auto-triage AWS incidents, surface root cause, route fixes. SOC 2. SSO. Live in a day." |
| 6 · Search | "observability, monitoring" | "incident response for AWS, on-call automation, MTTR reduction, PagerDuty alternative" |
| 8 · Agent-ready | "Contact us for pricing." | "Per-host/month, metered, standard contract — transactable without a sales call." |
The test that matters: could an AI agent summarize your listing correctly — and act on it? Read boxes 3, 4, and 8 as if you were a procurement agent comparing three vendors. If the value, the fit, and the price aren't unambiguous, you've found your rewrite.
